A photograph can be worth a thousand words, it is true. The long view from a photographer's lens can sometimes say more than a writer's storytelling.
So, today and for the next few days, the Sun Herald "Before and After" will bring you sets of photographs that need little explanation. They will graphically show how Hurricane Katrina affected our streets, our scenic views, our towns. To present the broader view, they will feature more than just one house, or one business or one church.
Today, the view comes from a slice of Long Beach in Harrison County, including a neighborhood called Long Beach Oaks. Carolyn Owen of Long Beach said she has these before and after photographs pinned up on her cabinet. One of the roofs nearly hidden among trees was her house.
"People are very much moved by the before and after pictures I keep up at work," Owen said.
